Fenton Opalescent Blue Hobnail Bowl

Hobnail is a pattern of raised knobs. The knobs can be produced by pressing glass into a mold and most frequently handblown into a mold. Fenton first introduced this technique in 1939 with colored glass and continued until 1954.

I believe this beautiful hobnail opalescent bowl is from the late 1940's. The bowl has a dark blue glass starting on the pedestal bottom and the color becomes lighter going up the sides. The rim has large scallops. There is a handle on each side that also graduate colors. From the widest point of handle to handle measures almost six inches. The bowl stands 2 1/2 inches high. A spoon could easily rest on the rim.

In gathering information I found no other bowl designed in this style. Perhaps few were made of this more intricate design.

The bowl is in very good condition with no chips or cracks noted at this time. The piece has been a display item for most of it's lifetime .
