Pair of Aladdin Alacite Glass Electric Lamp Bases
Ivory-colored Alacite Glass was used by Aladdin Industries in both their kerosene and electric lamps between 1939 and 1952. Earlier items fluoresce under ultraviolet light because the original Alacite formula contained uranium oxide. After 1943 uranium had to be dropped from the formula. These lamps are circa 1940 and fluoresce under black-light, as shown.
Condition: The point of one corner on one lamp's base has flaked off (see up-close photo) . This is so difficult to see I didn't notice it myself until I checked each lamp surface with a loupe. No other chips that I could find, nor any cracks. The cords on both lamps are badly worn and no longer safe to use. These lamps should be re-wired prior to use. Replacement cloth-covered lamp cord is easily found if you want to use them, but keep that 'old-time' look.
Aladdin electric lamps with all their original parts are hard enough to find as singles. Here you are getting a matched pair for the price! Each lamp measures 11 1/2 inches tall, from base to top of bulb port. The glass sections alone are 8 3/8 inches tall. Bases are 3 inches square.
