1952 Christmas Ads - BETTY CROCKER ~ 'Madonna & Child' / FATIMA Cigarettes (on reverse)

These are genuine original magazine advertisements from a 1952 issue of LIFE.

This full-colour, vintage food ad for Betty Crocker of General Mills features a picture of Mary and the Baby Jesus as the centrepiece of stained-glass windows. The illustration depicts the Holy Mother and the Christ Child within a motif of plenty and harvest bounty. This advertisement is more of a public service announcement ("Give yourself a happy heart at Christmas") to share with the less fortunate, to "give food to the hungry".

Or if one prefers, the reverse features a dated, advertisement for Fatima Cigarettes in a "Beautiful Christmas Carton". The illustrated, seasonal packaging was printed for the Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. product.

Many vintage ads can act as "time capsules", reflecting the styles and sensibilities of a particular era. Christmas ads, perhaps due to the traditional, "family" nature of the holiday, often evoke a stronger sense of nostalgia. They can stir childhood memories of simpler, more sentimental times.

This LARGE 1950s ad measures 14" x 10 1/4" (approx.). The image of this piece of advertising memorabilia / ephemera has been accommodated completely by a large-format scanner. This Fifties print ad is in excellent condition and is eminently suitable for framing - perhaps as a decorative holiday accent for your home.
