1955 CHRISTMAS Ad - Huntley & Palmers Biscuits ~ 'Trafalgar Square at Night'

This British, full-colour, vintage food ad features an artist-signed (Frank Haseler) illustration of a busy Trafalgar Square in London, England during Christmastime. The seasonal scene shows crowds of people in the famous public space in Central London. The dark, blue-black night sky is contrasted by the snow on the ground and the lights on the Christmas tree and in the shopfronts.

Also present in the picture are those towering landmarks, Nelson's Column - with the lion statues keeping guard on their plinths - and the tall Christmas Tree that is an annual gift from the city of Oslo, Norway in gratitude for Britain's support during the Second World War. Visible in the background is a Huntley & Palmers neon advertising sign on the side of a building, while an ubiquitous red double-decker bus trundles past - a great visual!

Or if one prefers, the reverse features a religious, medieval Christmas scene titled, "Christmas Seven Hundred Years Ago". This print is from a "painting by M. Broderick" and depicts a church service of The Adoration of the Magi during The Feast of the Epiphany.
