Spelter Figure Aug. Moreau Lamp French Sculpture Boy With Fishing Pole

Figure is a boy holding a fishing pole, with a duck at the end of the line at his feet, and a fishing creel at his waist on the back. Casting is made of spelter, an extremely strong and durable metal, and has the original patinated bronze finish, with contrast provided by ivory color polychrome enamel.

Base of figural is marked with the Aug. Moreau signature and a round embossed fleur de lis seal "Collection Francaise Made in USA". This seal was used by J.B. Hirsch & Co., who acquired the original French molds, and cast this piece early to mid 20th century.

Bronzed finish is in great condition, with only a few minor rubs on some edges, and has a beautiful patina and luster. There are only a few tiny chips to the ivory paint on the top of the figure, and the lower base has light wear, mainly on the edge of the top surface. There is one indent on the top surface of the lower base, but it looks like it was made that way and not later damage. The boys shirt has a lighter color on the top surface of the collar, shoulder and arm. There are some darker highlights on the ivory painted surface, perhaps to give it a distressed look. There are no major faults or damage. Piece has not been retouched and there are no cracks or repairs. It is possible the cord was replaced at some point and the socket is not original to the lamp. I am not certain whether it had a socket with some type of candle bulb, a glass shade, or a fabric shade originally. Measurement from bottom of base to top of head is 19 inches and 24 1/4 inches to top of light socket. Base has a 6 1/4 inch diameter. Lamp is quite heavy, weighing a little over nine pounds.
