Greek Roman Apollo Diana Chalkware Bookends 1940s Mythology

From Greek and Roman mythology, we offer these circa 1940s – 50s chalkware bookends, one with the Greek God Apollo, the other his twin sister Goddess Diana (Artemis), son and daughter of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leto (Letona).

Measurements: 4 3/4 inches wide, 7 inches high and 3 3/4 inches front to back.

Base has original gray felt, with a shield shaped gold and black foil label for Roman Art Co. Inc. Robia Ware (No. 1430 in pencil) St. Louis, Mo.

They are fabulous, with a lustrous golden finish, with antiqued highlights, and wonderful detail. The laurel leaves going up the sides of the back have just a hint of green highlights.

They are in excellent condition, with only minor faults. Apollo has only small paint loss on the left side of base. Diana has small paint losses on the side of the base, mainly on the right side. She had a small chip on the left and a section of paint loss on the Diana name plaque. These were both touched up and the paint matches very nicely.

This is an exquisite pair of bust statue bookends to display as an art form, or to elegantly hold a selection of books.
