Vintage Silk Scarf Shawl Paisley Thirkell Italy Forty Inch Square

This a a really lovely large vintage silk scarf signed Thirkell, and with a tag marked Made in Italy. The scarf is shawl sized at 40 inches square, and has a bright green, blue, white and gold paisley pattern on persimmon shaded silk, with white tassel edging, part of the expertly woven silk square. It comes from a fine estate collection and I believe it is c 1950 - 1960 vintage. My research indicates Thirkell of Old Bond Street to have been a couture label, and I think the signature refers to Roy Thirkell. Thirkell scarves have become hard to find, especially in this large shawl size, and excellent condition.

The shawl is very versatile as it can be worn as a draped or tied head covering, a traditional over the shoulder shawl or a long neck scarf, tied or looped into a favorite ring or scarf clip. The silk is soft and smooth and the Italian craftsmanship is evident.

The condition is excellent and clean.
