Porcelain Moriage Hatpin Holder or Shaker with Geisha Girls Marked Nippon
I have seen this lovely porcelain piece described as both a hatpin holder as well as a spice or sugar shaker (with a cork in the opening at the base). I am not sure what it was intended to be used for, but it is a pretty Geisha girl pattern in a Japanese garden setting. There is a green mark with Hand Painted Nippon around an M in a wreathe, which I believe is the Morimura mark, but this may be a later reproduction? The moriage and hand painting is beautifully done.
The piece stands 6 1/2 inches tall, with a 2 1/2 inch diameter at the top, and just over 3 inches across the base, with a 1 inch diameter opening, and 17 holes at the top. Condition is excellent.
