Antique Schafer and Vater Jasperware Box Fairies Cameo Heart Shaped Hair Receiver Jar
This heart shaped sage green bisque porcelain hair receiver vanity jar was made by the famous German ceramics company, Schafer and Vater, during the early 1900s. The Art Nouveau theme has a detailed white bas-relief decoration on the lid, with two dancing Fairies wearing flowing diaphanous tunics, and further adorned by bas relief floral motifs scattered around the lid and jar. The central opening for the hair receiver lid is also heart shape and is bordered on each side by a white bas-relief cornucopia overflowing with flowers.
Dimensions are 4 1/2 inches in length and width, and 2 3/4 inches in height. Marked 3098. Both the jar and its lid are in excellent condition. The white spots seen on the inner rims on the photo of the insides are the white bisque coating and not damage
Hair receivers were popular vanity accessories with ladies of that period to store hair removed from their brushes & combs, which enhanced the buns and other bouffant hair styles that were fashionable during Victorian times.
A delightful Vanity Collectible item. This box could also be used as a potpourri container.
