Vintage Robe Peony Brand Silk Satin Red Full Length Dressing Gown

Exquisitely tailored and embroidered 60s-70s full length, long sleeved, fully lined robe by Peony Brand of Shanghai China. The fabric is a heavy yet smooth and soft silk satin, and is richly embroidered with assorted floral and abstract Chinese designs, in shades of green,blue, gold and black, that contrast beautifully with the deep red background of the dressing gown. The collar, lapels, cuffs and pockets are liberally top stitched and stiffened. Closes with two "frog" style coiled cloth button loop fasteners as well as an inner tie and an outer sash belt in two belt loops. Two deep front-side pockets. Tailored pleats in front and back created a well fitting form.

This very expensive robe was made in the 60s-70s and was purchased by a family friend for the original owner during a trip to China mid Seventies. Has been in storage since 1991, so needs dry cleaning. The condition is very good, light wear marks on the outside, while the inner silk lining does have some small areas worn through along the mid lower back with light staining, also around collar, which I have tried to photograph. The darker areas on the outside are shadows caused by the lighting plus flash and are not stains. It was very hard to capture the true color of this gorgeous fire engine red robe in photographs
