Vintage Ceramic Corn Serving Set Platter with Corn on the Cob Plates
This colorful Italian majolica set has been in my family since I was a child in the fifties. The handpainted pieces are in the shape of corn, with a relief of rich orange yellow cobs and green hued leaves. The set has a large platter, 18 inches long by 10 inches at its widest, tapering to 2 inches at the tip, with a 1 1/2 inch stalk angled at the other end. There are four individual corn on the cob serving plates, decorated in the same way as the platter, and with each dish 11 1/2 inches long x 5 inches wide tapering to just over an inch at the tip, and with a one inch stalk.
One of the small servers has 255/223 and HAND PAINTED ITALY signed on the bottom, while the platter and remaining 3 serving dishes have just HAND PAINTED ITALY inscribed on the white bottoms.
The condition is very good with rich color as this set was always hand washed, as it should be. There are a few tiny areas of scuffs where the paint is lost and the white ceramic shows through, but overall really in fine condition for an approx 60 year old set, lovingly used.
