Since ancient times the holy grail of silver users across the world has been the elimination of tarnish. Argentium has succeeded in achieving this beyond all others.

Argentium Silver is the most tarnish resistant silver available today – it is available in all forms, is firescale free and whilst perfectly malleable, can easily be made twice as hard as traditional sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. 100% silver is too soft to be used for jewelry purposes, so copper is added in order to produce a harder alloy. However, the copper within sterling silver oxidizes when heated, causing a purple stain called firescale just under the surface of the metal. And, as we all know, sterling silver eventually tarnishes.

Argentium sterling silver is a patented and trademarked alloy that contains germanium which replaces some of the copper that is usually the other 7.5% of the sterling silver alloy. Germanium is a hard, grayish-white, crystalline semi-metallic element. It is in the same chemical family as carbon, silicon, tin, and lead. The Argentium sterling silver alloy is 92.5% silver, 6.3% copper and 1.2% germanium. What makes Argentium so special is that due to the addition of the germanium it becomes firescale free, tarnish resistant, fusable, and more malleable than regular sterling silver.
