Barbados Coat Of Arms Sterling Silver Enamel Souvenir Spoon

The coat of arms of Barbados was adopted upon independence on the feast day of St. Andrew's in 1966. Like other former British possessions in the Caribbean, the coat of arms has a helmet with a national symbol on top, and a shield beneath that is supported by two animals. The national symbol found on top of the helmet for Barbados is the fist of a Barbadian holding two sugar canes that are crossed to resemble St. Andrew's Cross. The shield has a pair of the Pride of Barbados, the national flower, and a single bearded fig tree. It is supported by a pelican and a Dolphin fish, representing Pelican Island and fishing. At the bottom is Barbados' national motto, "Pride and Industry", on a scroll. The coat of arms is represented at the top of this souvenir spoon that is sterling silver with various colored enamels. The spoon is 4 3/4" long and in excellent condition. It is impressed with the maker's name "Exquisite E.J. Ltd" on the back with the British hallmarks for Birmingham1973.
