SLS! SAVE $35! Very old Cloisonne Bangle full of color and charm!

The art of cloisonne jewelry dates well back in history, with the earliest pieces being found in rings dating to the 12th century BC. I've had a bit of a love affair with it since my hubby bought me my first pair of cloisonne dangling earrings back in the 70's. So little wonder I couldn't pass by this pretty, albeit very old bangle in an antiques shop I visited a couple of years back.

I'm truly intrigued by the work that goes into cloisonne pieces. According to Wikipedia:

"The decoration is formed by first adding compartments (cloisons in French[1]) to the metal object by soldering or glueing silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, which are often of several colors. Cloisonné enamel objects are worked on with enamel powder made into a paste, which then needs to be fired in a kiln."

You can see that detailed work very well in this bangle, which is decorated with sets of green, blue, black and red flowers. All of this color stands out dramatically against the all-white enamel background which is on both the top and underside of the bangle. There are some bits of crazing or cracking in the white enamel but you don't really notice it unless you're closely inspecting it with a loupe or under a strong camera lens. Our photos magnify what you don't really see easily.

The clasp closes easily and firmly. With a simple tug, the clasp opens the bangle to a wide 4.5" for easy insertion. Closed, the diameter of the bangle is a comfortable 2.5" diameter. The bangle is a good 1/4" wide and weighs 22 grams. All up, it's in very good condition, with the only wear to the enamel being the thin lines of cracking in the white enamel as mentioned above and shown in the photos.
