Sparkling Aurora Borealis Pin by Jay Kel - an original!
Here's a dazzling pin I found at an antique fair about a year ago that will appeal to those who love designer signed vintage jewelry.
Made by Jay Kel, a company based in New York in the 40's and 50's, this is a beautifully made pin with lots and lots of glittery aurora borealis that have lost little of their wash over the years: all original prong-set stones, I found only one with a small chip. My hubby got to taking the photos before I had a chance to give it a light clean, so any spots you see are most likely some dust.
It's always so hard to get the exact colors we see with our own eyes when photographing aurora borealis stones: the wash gives off different colors depending on lighting. On this one, I see predominantly green tones.
The back is a bright silver color, probably rhodium or silver plate and the plaque is stamped "Jay Kel Original", making it a nice collector's piece. Its diameter is just short of 2". Nice one!
