Manual of Standard and Recommended Practice - Association of American Railroads - Issued: March 1961

Here is a real treasure for any railroad enthusiast. This 1961 issue of "Manual of Standard and Recommended Practice" published by the Association of American Railroads. Considered as the bible by railroad maintenance workers this manual was complied under the direction of the various committees responsible for setting of practices regarding the maintenance and specifications of trains. It contains over 900 pages of specifications for material, gages and testing devices, car construction, trucks and truck details, brakes and brake equipment, safety appliances for cars and locomotives, train lighting - headlights and classification lamps, specifications for tank cars, miscellaneous standards and recommended practices. This manual is bound in a khaki colored cloth cover which has some very minor rubbing to two of the corners. The spine as well as all of the pages are intact. The pages and drawings are clean and bright and show no signs of wear or discoloration. The book measures 9 1/4" in length by 9 1/2" in width and 4 1/4" high and weighs seven (7) pounds. As this manual was used railroad maintenance departments very few survived in such immaculate condition as this one.
