A little bit of history about Paco Rabanne. He was born Francesco Rabaneda Cuervo in Spain on February 18, 1934 and was raised in France. He studied to be an architect at the Ecole National des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1964 he presented his first haute couture collection in Paris.
The fashion press was fascinated with this debut collection entitled "12 Experimental Dresses”. He created futuristic garments made out of plastic and aluminum, materials which had never been used in garments before. These dresses have become iconic.
The fashion press coined the look as "space age," in homage to the space race between the U.S. and the former Soviet Union.
Paco Rabanne broke tradition, by introducing and using these new materials for his garments, instead of just changing the silhouettes of the clothes for each season.
He designed the costumes for Jane Fonda in Barbarella.
