Vintage Sterling Hand with Flowers Brooch - Wearing Snake Bracelet

Amazing large sterling silver brooch with a classic Victorian mourning design: a lady's hand holding a spray of wheat (harvest of ripened grain motif) and a flower. A design often depicted in antique vulcanite or gutta percha jewelry. But this brooch features the added detail of a snake coiled around the wrist! Fantastic!

This brooch was sold to me as Victorian, but the safety pinback suggest it was made later; I can't be sure, but would guess 1940s to 1980s. Whenever it was made, it's a wonderful sterling version of a beloved mourning design.

Nice and large, it measures approximately 78 mm (3 and 1/8 inches) by 32 mm (1 and 1/4 inches). Stamped sterling. Solid weight. Pinback opens easily and closes securely.
