1950 Necklace and Earring Demi Parure

This demi parure from the 1950’s is quite attractive and unusual. It is marked Japan on the hook. Each of the beads has a Chinese lantern effect. The beads appear to be made from a warm creamy material, but I think it is a plastic that has the feel of material. The necklace and earrings are very light weight, and so very comfortable to wear. The necklace is made of two rows of beads and has a hook and extension, so that the necklace is adjustable. The total length with the extension is 26 ½”, but can be adjusted to be as short as 24”. This necklace is very elegant. Each bead is capped with a gold tone lacy cap. A faux pearl separates each of the beads.

The earrings measure 1” in diameter. They are arranged like a flower with seven beads that create the petals, and the center has a bead a little larger than the petals. Going around the center are seven pearls. What I found to be of interest is that the seven outer beads are hand strung, as are the pearls. The backing is such that one can’t see how it has been attached.

I am always amazed at how remarkable these beads sets from Japan can be; artistic, well made, and look like some of the more expensive sets one might find from that era. The necklace and earrings are clean and ready to wear.
