1967 Hand Crafted Poetry Book by Gwen Frostic – Wing Borne

This is her, Wing - Borne. I believe this was published in 1967.

This book measures 6 ½" x 9 ½" and is in excellent condition. No tears, missing pages, scribbles and stains. The hard cover binding is strong and unbroken with only very light black streaks on the top and bottom edge of front cover. I think these marks are actually from the original printing.

Her original books, of which this is one, were hand-made and printed by the noted Michigan artist - author, in her own studio with her specially made 'Presscraft' papers. All her copies are slightly different.

The book is hand-crafted with interesting papers and inks. The pages are all different types of hand-made paper with deckle edges left untrimmed. Poems are illustrated with fabulous block prints in subtle, nature like colors.

Gwen Frostic's books, quite apart from the wonderful poetry, are exquisite examples of book binding art from another age.

Gwen Frostic passed away in 2001.
