The Cotton Club Black Glass Swizzle Stick

Here is a FANTASTIC black glass swizzle stick from The Cotton Club in NYC and it is in excellent collectible condition. The Famous COTTON CLUB is printed in silver gray on black glass and there is no fading in the letters. It reads: The Famous COTTON CLUB 48th Street & Broadway N.Y.C. On each side of the name is a person dancing. It was quite the place to go in those early days of JAZZ. It's awesome. The stick measures 5 7/8" in length with a ball on each end.

During the 1920s The Cotton Club was a famous jazz music night club in Harlem, NYC; it operated during prohibition. Although it featured many great African American entertainers of the times, such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and others, it generally denied admission to blacks. Years later, that changed.

The club was temporarily closed in 1936 after a race riot in Harlem the year before, reopening later that year at Broadway and 48th Street; then in 1940 due to higher rents and federal investigation into tax evasion by Manhattan nightclub owners, it closed its doors for good. The Latin Quarter nightclub took over the space and the building was torn down in 1989.

I've never come across a Cotton Club stirrer before; I consider this a super find for the swizzle stick collector. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State or Massachusetts. Local tax rate applies.
