Staffordshire Black Transferware Plate - Canova Stoneware

Offered here is a Staffordshire transferware plate illustrating a garden scene overlooking a river, boat and buildings in the distance. Colors are black and gray on white stoneware. Although the maker is not identified, I believe it to be a Thomas Mayer's, made in Stoke on Trent during the 1830's – 1850's. The only mark on the back is "Canova Stoneware". The plate measures 10 1/2 inches in diameter; there is very fine crazing and some brown foxing in the center. Lovely cabinet plate. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State or Massachusetts. Local tax rate applies.
