What a great find and such an unusual shape for a bird cage. My first impression was that it looked like the onion domes atop Russian Orthodox churches and Germany, mostly on catholic churches. There are other shaped cupolas: Orthodox helmet domes, the Ukraninian pear shaped domes and Baroque bud domes, but this shape reminds me particularly of the bulbous onion domes one might find across Eastern Europe, India, the Middle East and Asian. Yet with all that given, I know it would be very comfortable in any decorum, especially the Shabby Chic. Absolutely! Yes! The decorative white wire worked dome is lovely. At the top is a metal tapered ring loop for hanging. This piece carries the flow of the dome to the top giving it the look of an onion dome. I love it! The cage measures 21 inches tall; the sphere is approximately 12 inches in diameter; the base measures 8 ½ inches square by 7 ¼ inches tall; the center is octagonal shaped and measures 2 ½ inches high. Each section between dowels is 3 ½ inches wide with decorative wire; the sphere or onion dome is securely attached to this. There are 3 interestingly shaped metal bird feeding stations, the other is the door; these measure 5 ½ inches high by 3 ¾ inches wide with a 2 ¼ inch round out projection for placing bird feeder dishes. The design of this cage is exquisite. Inside there is a swing and in the bottom is a pull out tin tray for catching litter. It is not only a working piece it is a decorative piece as well. Cage is as we found it. Could be cleaned some, but is otherwise in great usable condition with no rust. All it needs now is the bird or for a Shabby Chic look some flowers and ribbons. It's a beauty!
