Our Service Pledge To You:
As a buyer & collector myself I will do my best to treat my customers the way I would want to be treated. That means I try to use quality photos, have an accurate description, and just as importantly package items the way I would like to receive them.
Messages / offers / orders are usually answered within 12 hours on weekdays and 24 hours on extended weekends, often faster.
All items are originals to the best of my knowledge, unless description prominently states reproduction / repro [some photos only].
About Us
My name is KR and I grew up going to zoos, living & natural history museums, and antiquing with my parents. I always found history interesting and developed an appreciation for "old" items from past eras. I love living history museums connection with the past, so in a smaller sense having old / antique items is kind of like experiencing the past. I have always been a collector at heart, so getting into this business was a natural for me.
In 2001, eBay was gaining widespread popularity and a friend wanted to start selling his antiques & collectibles online, rather than locally. As a result for 9 years starting in 2001, I did most of the work needed to sell an item online, including research, photography, descriptions, listing it, and answering any questions about the item. I didn't do the packaging, but watched him do it every day, while I was getting the next batch of items ready to list. As such by the time he retired from online selling in 2009 I already knew all the basics and many of the advanced techniques needed to sell antiques & collectibles in an online environment.
Starting in 2007 I branched out and started selling on eBay myself under the name -- forwis -- which is a combination of the state motto (Forward) and state name (Wisconsin). I wanted a made-up name, so it would be unique and it has certainly served me well, including a #1 Google search results ranking!!!
I originally planned to sell postcards, but accidentally came across some old lithograph stereoviews. After selling those within days of obtaining them, I decided to concentrate on photo stereographs instead of postcards. After mainly focusing on stereo views for my first couple years, I have and am continuing to branch out into other antique photographic formats including CDV's, Cabinet Photos, late 1800's / early 1900's Mounted Photos, Real Photo Postcards [RPPC's], etc. In addition to my main focus on early photographs, I also sell various other old / antique items, including silver [mainly sterling flatware / souvenir spoons], jewelry [modern, costume & fine], art pottery, reference materials, etc. I also dabble in interesting / old / antique books, magazines, pamphlets, and ephemera.
Since I started selling for myself, I have sold items all across the United States and to quite a few international countries as well. My items have been purchased by a wide & interesting range of customers ranging from museum curators, authors, professors, teachers, and of course collectors for an equally wide range of uses, everything from a college theses, public display in a museum exhibit, as reference materials for future books, private museums & collections, as college teaching material, because a relative lived in the building shown, etc.
Thanks for visiting my site,
KR
