This 3" by 6" tile has a patent date of 1882 and is an example of the stunning glazes produced by J & J. G. Low Art Tile Works. It is a blue-green glaze with shading. The color highlights the design which I think is reminiscent of a Roman mosaic stone road. Interlocking oval shapes are at either end with a circle in the center. The design sits above a lower arrangement of "stones". John Gardner Low began production of Art Tiles in 1879 in Chelsea Massachusetts.
