This 1709 windmill faces Lake St. Louis in Pointe Claire, Quebec, not too far from Montreal. There are only 18 windmills left in Quebec. This one was built by the Sulpicians, a Community of Diocesan Priests. The attractive windmill decor makes it a lovely addition to a collection. The plate is scalloped and has a 20 K gold brim. A lovely "tondo" in the Italian Renaissance style of Andrea della Robbia depicting a Madonna surrounded by a garland of fruits and leaves on vivid blue pottery. Such pieces of pottery are often seen in Tuscany; cemented near the front door they are believed to protect the home. The Madonna has delicate features and this piece is truly a pleasure to look at.
