This is a very old, exquisite Micro Mosaic. It may be earlier than the Victorian Period. This piece is very smooth. The tesserae (mosaic pieces) are very tiny and are very tightly set together as well as flush to the surface. Some of the tesserae are sandwiched and fused into two colors. When I first saw this piece I thought that the mosaics were fused into the glass, but they are set into a bed of granular material that is detectable only under extreme magnification.
