This wonderful bit of railroadiana was produced by Avon between 1971 and 1972 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of a famous Civil War locomotive chase. The dark blue glass decanter is created in the shape of the famous Civil War locomotive, the General 4-4-0, with its 4 wheels in the front, 4 in the middle, and none in the rear. The story of the General is told on the side of the box and describes "a daring and elaborate masquerade to steal the Confederate locomotive" by Union soldiers.
